FUSION COIL GENERATOR

One of the guys at my Games Club suffers from asthma. He uses these new-fangled Flixotide inhalers, which he passes on to me when he's done. Apart from being chock full of awesome greebly goodness, the outer casing of the inhalers looks very cool. For a while now I've been planing to build a sort of 'Empire strikes back' style generator using them. (You know the thing, the rebels have one on Hoth at the begining of the film.)
Well, I finally got round to making one during the mid semester holidays this year (advantages to being a teacher no. 101: Kids are on holiday, you're on holiday.)

First off, I cut the inhaler casings in half so they'd lie flush with the base. Then I cut a 2cm slice from a length of 40mm PVC pipe, and cut that in half to form the big pipe that connects the three inhalers. I detailed this up with some plasticard, plastic rod and rivets. I added a TOW missile control panel to one end of the generator, and stuck the whole thing to a Foamcore base.

After giving the foam core a quick going over with textured paint, the whole thing was ready for undercoat.

The paint job is almost all Boltgun metal and Codex grey. I used chainmail on some of the generator's panels to break things up a bit, and used Shining gold on the rivets and on the textured wave patterns on the inhalers, making them look sort of like heat sinks. Decals from an IG tank provided the numbers, and I stippled the whole generator with Vermin brown for the rust effect.
