BRETTONIAN HOVEL
Two things happened almost simultaneously earlier this year which lead to me building this eroding edifice. First off, I came up with the idea for UPLINK for one of my classes, and second, the article on making Brettonian Hovels appeared in WD. Well, since I always give my actors something as reward, and since both actors where going to be gamers(unfortunately, my original Agent Norman broke his hand in mysterious, but rather amusing circumstances, and was replaced by a non-gaming mate)I figured I'd make them an article of terrain each. So Drew (who played Matt Cameron) ended up receiving a Brettonian Hovel in thanks (Lucas got the sunnies he was wearing in the film). Noakes (the original Agent Norman) was going to receive a Dark Elf shrine sort of thing, and I might still make one for the hell of it.
Now, having read WD, I guess we all know what the hovel looks like, and how you make it right? So there's no point writing that down. Suffice to say that I painted it differently, and my thatch technique is different. Lets face it, fur is expensive. It looks like a straw or reed roof all right, but I wanted thatch. That's when I found Ryan Skow's site, where he demonstrates the use of old towels to make thatch. So I tried that, and lo: it looked good. I also left out the window shutters. (Some peasants are so poor they can't afford shutters!)Just recently, I decided that HGC needed a Brettonian terrain set. After all, all that was needed was some new buildings. The existing woods, hills etc. would all fit in perfectly. So I obviously, we needed more hovels!
This one follows the same basic method as the previous hovel, but is a different shape. It's actually harder making them this shape, as you have to carve the polystyrene to get the right roof angle at the join of the two roofs.
