| Palm trees are the ubiquitous plant of both deserts, and tropical areas. They can be found in Araby and Khemri, as well as in Lustria (and probably the Altdorf botanical gardens). There fore, palms are essential to all desert and jungle warfare, other wise, where would the wood elves hide? These palms I made are a variant on the pipe-cleaner tree method. However, you don't worry about branches. Simply twist the pipe-cleaners into a long rod, and twist any uneven bits into a lump at the top. The foliage is from some fake lavender plants I got from a $2 shop up Glenferrie road, in Malvern. I painted them a darker green, however. Not only do palms make good 'woods' for desert tables, but they are also essential for things like Oases (plural of Oasis), and look good against building walls. The Oasis uses basically the same techniques. A hole was cut in the middle of the base to create the pool, which was painted in various blue shades. The water effect was achieved with a couple of layers of PVA glue. For more ideas about Palms, check out this great colonial gaming site! |
