SLIME
PIT HARBOR
| I
always fanciend having some modular terrain, ever since that ill fated
september day when my Grandmother gave me a copy of 'How to make wargames
terrain' There is, of course, a very good reasoin behidn this desire.
Modular terrain looks damn good. So a while ago I was turning the
idea over in my head again, and i got inspired. And thus was created
Slime Pit Harbor.I
decided to take advantage of one of Modular terrains best features:
Depth. Because each tile is a 3cm thick slab of Polystyrene, i can
cut into it. Unlike the dinign room table, whihc Mum is rather protective
of... So right from the start, i knew i was goign to have a slime
canal, and a harbor. |

How
could i possibly represent the bustling slime sea port of SLime Pit
Harbor (incidentaly, named after Syndey Harbor, to which it bears
a strking resemblance) with out a Canal and a harbor?I also decided
to have craters modeled into the ground, and some pits to access subteranean
pipes. Then of course i had to build a hill.
A
7cm tall block of polystyrene doen uyp as concrete, and coving most
of one board would suit nicly.
Having
got a rough idea of what i wanted, i used Lightwave to draw up some
rough concepts. Then i got carried away and drew up anothert four
boards, which i will porbably make eventually.

The
construction process started with the traditional mamoth buy-up
which porceeds all large projects. I went to BUnning's and bought
up a lot of odd plumbing parts and other interesting greeblies.
Then i went to Pen Haluriacks to buy the MDF. Here I had a pleasant
suprise. You can actually buy MDF in 2ft by 4ft sheets! This saves
a lot of cutting.
(Unfortunatly,
there are no 2ft by 2ft sheets available) I bought up almsot all
the 30mm polystyrene at the Handworks craft shop in Chaple street,
and set to.

Each
tile is 2ft sqaure, 6mm thick, and has 30mm polystyrene sheet mounted
to it. All edges have been taped up with Gaffer tape, which hepls
protect exposed styrene. Since each tile is a
terrain item in itself, i have decided to give each tile it's own
individual page.
Tile
1: River section
Tile 2: Harbor
Tile 3: Craters
Tile 4: Hill
