SPANG MAGAKAN
ORKY WARCHIEF

Behold the might of Spang Magakan, Warchief of Klan Magakan!
The name Spang Magakan (well, Spang McGaken originally) actually started life as one of my Orc Blood Bowl team. It seemed to good a name to miss, so I've named my Warchief Spang as well.

Spang comes fully tooled out with a Boss Pole, Big Hornz, Attack Squig, Power Klaw, Big Shoota and 'Eavy arma.
Being the most important Ork in the tribe, Spang has the most body paint. One entire half of his body is painted with blue war paint! His back banner is painted in the same way.

Spang is a conversion based on the Ork Warboss miniature with Attack Squig. I thought this one was a bit more primitive looking than the other one, plus I wanted an Attack squig anyway! I also wanted a Big Shoota and Power Klaw. So I built the Gauntlet of Orktremar - a power Klaw with a big shoota bolted on underneath!
The Power Klaw comes from a Mega Armored Nob I had spare. I chopped off the Nob's arm, and Spang's hand and weapon. The Klaw fits fairly easily, but I added a 'ard boy shoulder pad to bulk it out a bit. I've also added the worky bitz from a chainsword so the klaw looks self powered (I usually model on huge power back packs, but I wanted to use the cool looking back holster!) The gun itself is made from a combination of shoota bitz with an imperial guard heavy stubber ammo box stuck on the side. Spang likes to have plenty of ammo!

The Attack Squig is an important feature of the model. I've never painted a model which represents two separate beings before! I've used my standard squig paint scheme, developed for my WFB Orc army. The squig is painted white, then washed with Magenta ink. Teeth and claws are picked out in bleached bone, and then given a brown ink wash. The eyes are Bilious Green. I tried red eyes, but in the pink face they did not show up very well. Giving the Squig such a bright color makes it stand out from Spang much better than, say, a Green Squig.
I don't know exactly why, but I love that back holster! There was no question, I had to use it.
You can see a fairly good example of 'dagging' on the holster. Dags are the triangular shapes Orks often edge things with. The Magakan Tribe love to use them for war paint, to decorate their weapons and gear, or to add a bit of luck giving blue to their otherwise red trucks. Painting dags requires a steady hand and a good eye, but it can look great!
