EXHAUST
STACK
| When
I was nearly finished on the Slime Pit Harbor project, I started
to make some buildings to use with it. I was mostly waiting for
the glue in the puddles to dry, so I had plenty of time. This building
is based on a PVC down pipe out let I picked up while shopping for
stuff to use on the modular sections. he
building is some sort of huge industrial exhaust stack, so massive
and foul that it needs a control building! The building's size and
shape is based around the PVC down pipe end, with the levels being
about 7cm high each. (The base is 5mm, so The whole thing ended
up 5mm higher than I originally calculated. Always remember your
base thickness!) |

The
main structure is made from thin corrugated card, decorated with
shapes cut from thin card. I added a small vent I bought from The
local hardware shop. I think it's meant for air con or central heating
or something. There's also a couple of PVC 90 degree bends. I made
a small platform from card to project from The top of The
exhaust stack. It's important to remember which way things go. Somehow,
I managed to stick The platform supports on facing The wrong way
TWICE! Man am I thick! I added some chair leg tips, and ladders
made from Flexi-Track, along with a little plastruct. Then I painted
textured paint on all The concrete bits. |

I
painted The concrete neutral grey, with a fortress grey dry brush.
The metal is mostly Boltgun metal, with some Beaten copper (my
new favorite!) A few bits are green, cause green always looks
industrial to me. I washed The metal with chestnut and black inks,
and painted some rust stains onto The concrete using chestnut
ink. Finally I added a few wanted posters. These are dead easy.
I just made some in photoshop, and printed them out. A little
thinned down flesh wash makes them look nicely aged, and PVA sticks
them down nicely. You can even tear them up to make old tattered
versions! Best of all, they add incredible character to any building!

Although
I am still not entirely sure what The stack is or what it's for
(this is The underhive, no one knows what The stuff was for!) It
is one of my favorite pieces just now. Along with The Temple of
Haxor, and The Crashed Doom diver, it's probably my favorite small
piece. (Small compared to Slime Pit Harbor!) |
